A great looking bunch came today to learn, workout and play hard. Today’s focus was BALL CONTROL. Ball control requires strong concentration, form and technique in every touch. Heavy emphasis on pepper drills to improve your ball control, range in defense, increase reaction and narrow your focus.
15 minutes warmup and stretch – following the same as session #1.
Conditioning: (15-20 minutes)
Line runs
Back-and-go – Pair drill, one ball, run back to half court, run forward and bump the ball after one bounce
Cross court: Yoga lunge, One leg jumps, Lunge skips (interval form)
Skill Development – (1 hour)
Three’s company (A sets to B who bumps to C) clockwise, counter-clockwise.
Pepper
Two-person dig, set, hit.
Two-person dig and set to yourself, then hit opponent.
Two-person dig, tomahawk, set to yourself and then hit opponent.
Over the net (line and inside10-foot) – dig, set and down ball (cross court)
Two on Two (10-foot line – aim at the target) – (find the hole)
Serve – needle point forward, stripes vertical, keep serving elbow high, toss ball low, wrist firm, contact with heel of hand (thud not slap). Hand follows target. Step about 15 feet behind serving line and aim to back line on opposite court.
Target serving (6 points)
Back row rally (control) – 4 players per team, back row attack only, loosing player (two and 10 pushups)
King of the court – 10-foot line, back row regular, two hit max
